We All Gotta Start Somewhere

“How do I make an ebook?”

That’s the question that led me to put a short story on Amazon. I had no idea how self publishing digitally worked and, really, there was only one want I was going to find out. So, I took a short story I was proud of, did what I thought I could to polish it, made a cover for it, and put it up on Amazon. And while, at this point, it’s not even close to my best work (especially considering all of the spelling a grammar problems), I lave it up as a reminder that I decided to do something, and I did it.

Hopefully, one day, it won’t be alone when you search my name.

“As long as the book gets done; write however you want.”

Former Writer for Idle Champions of the Forgotten Realms

Living the dream!

For a year and a half, I was the Writer and Content Designer for Idle Champions of the Forgotten Realms — a formation strategy game from Codename Entertainment. During that time I designed and wrote over 30 adventures and wrote the flavor text for over 50 pieces of Champion Equipment.

This was my absolute dream job and there are still moments where I’m shocked I got to do this job. I love video games, I love Dungeons & Dragons, and (surprise!) I love writing. This was literally everything I could hope for in a job. I poured my heart and soul into the writing for this game — and I hope I left a good mark on the game.

If you are interested in hiring me for game writing I am happy to share examples of my writing, but if you’d like to check out my writing in the game itself you can find the game — free to download — in the link below.

Mars Reads Peril at the Greenhow Part 1

While at Codename Entertainment, I wrote a three-part story about two Champions created by B. Dave Walters and Gail Simone. Mars read each one on CNE’s streaming show Mars’ Guiding Hand. He did an incredible job bringing my story to life, and I hope you enjoy listening to him read it.

How did I get this lucky?

I grew up reading webcomics in high school and ALWAYS wanted to make one. But I’m just a writer and have zero artistic skills. I tried working with artists several times, but nothing panned out. I remember thinking, “Man, it would be so cool if I could just somehow work with Luke McKay on a webcomic. I loved his art from the Rooster Teeth webcomic.”

And then a year later I was working at CNE where Luke McKay was doing weekly webcomics. And SOMEHOW I managed to get into a spot where when a new webcomic got pitch I could throw my hand up and yell “I WOULD LIKE TO WRITE THAT!”

I got to work with Luke on over twenty comics and it’s still one of the biggest highlights of my writing carreer.
